Memorable experiences as a Teacher
As a part of the B.Ed curriculum, I joined SNDP HSS Karamvely for the four month school internship program. It commenced from November 17, 2021 and continued till March 19, 2022. I was assigned to take classes to students of class 8A and 9A, malayalam medium. I had to teach the chapters magnetism, reflection through spherical mirrors, sound and static electricity to students of class 8A and non-metals, acids, bases and salts and world of carbon to students of class 9A.
I had already completed the school induction program in same school. But I had no live class experiences and took the classes via Google meet due to covid-19 pandemic. Since I had no real class experience I felt little nervous about the first day of school internship program.
Before going to school we collected the portions and divided the portions into 50 lessons for preparing lesson plans. The first day in the school was an unforgettable one. The pleasant smile of the students made me comfortable for teaching. Due to covid-19 the students in the class were divided into two batches. The first batch comes on the first three days and the second batch comes on the next three days of the week. Hence the strength of the class was very less and I could manage the class very effectively.
Linta Raju, Fouziya Youseph and Sreelakshmi KP were the co-trainees. Since students attend the school only three days in a week and only the forenoon session, we had to repeat the lessons and took online classes along with offline class which was a hectic task for us. But we were able to plan and implement all the strategies under the support of school authorities and teachers.
I was little tensed during the first few days of real life teaching experience. But the responses of my students boosted my confidence. After completion of every chapter, I conducted exams to understand the learning difficulties of the students and give them remedial measures. Administering exams also helped me to analyse the effectiveness of various teaching methods, strategies and techniques adopted by me.
During the month of January the Covid cases increased and the government decided to shift the school system entity online platform. Many of the students had difficulty to attend the online classes during the working hours due to the non availability of electronic gadgets.
After 2 weeks, the schools were reopened in full swing with all students in a single classroom with regular school timings and regular time table. The real vibes of the school is again regained. Initially, it was difficult for me to manage all the students effectively but I soon developed that ability. It was a good experience to see how teachers manage all the positive and negative situations arising in the school.
Meanwhile, we conducted various activities as a part of B.Ed curriculum. We conducted peer review, organised club activities, value education classes, art education, yoga, physical education, etc. I identified special children in my class and conducted case study, done Action Research and recommended solutions. I systematically covered all the portions and took revision. Last week of internship was very emotional in sense.
I realised that saying goodbye is a very tough job. We had gifted the students with chocolates and teachers with puffs as a token of love. I felt very sad leaving the school. Now I realised their love and attachment for me.
For me, internship period is a transformation from a person to a teacher. The internship program provide us a direct learning experience on various roles of a teacher. It equipped us to Cater to the diverse needs of learners in the school.
I felt very glad to complete my school internship program at SNDP HSS Karamvely. The teachers as well as the non-teaching staffs helped me to run my teaching process smoothly. The internship program is one of the most memorable experience in my life.
After the completion of internship, I am proud to be a "Teacher".
